South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident on I-20 in Richland County Friday morning, May 2, 2014. At least one passenger is dead and one driver was arrested. According to authorities, Lamont Hampton, of Columbia, South Carolina was killed when his Chrysler SUV was hit from behind causing his vehicle to leave the highway and hit a tree. Richland County Coroner reported that Mr. Hampton was not wearing a seatbelt, and died at the scene from multiple trauma.
Perez Brooks of Sumter, South Carolina, was driving a Chrysler sedan when he hit Mr. Hampton from behind. Mr. Brooks, who had turned 29 years old the day before, was charged with felony DUI resulting in the death.
